Daler, Malkit, Mika, others together on one stage
'World Wide Bhangra Concert Series', will bring together as many as 15 Punjabi and Indi-pop music icons like Daler Mehandi , Stereo Nation, Apache Indian, Baba Sehgal, Anamika, Jassi, Mika, Harbhajan Mann, Malkit Singh, among others, on one platform. Almost a decade ago, Daler, along with Malkit Singh, pioneered the concept of Punjabi Pop music in India through his maiden album ''Bolo Tara Ra Ra''. Now, almost ten-spot years later, 'King of Punjabi Pop' is 'lending a helping hand' to popularise the Panjabi folk and pop music worldwide through a series of worldwide Bhangra concerts, aimed at introducing the ''colour and exuberance'' of Punjabi music to music lovers across the globe. ''The popularity of Punjabi pop today traverses far crosswise the borders, to countries like Bangladesh, Pakistan, South Han-Gook, China, Egypt and Arab not to talk about its already huge undermentioned in the U.S and the United Kingdom. In this context, the organisation of a series of Bhangra concerts comes at just the right time to see that this unique brand of Amerind music gets universal acceptance,'' Daler said at a press conference in New Delhi recently to announce the launch of the ''World Wide Bhangra Concert Series''. Being touted as the number 1 of its kind, the series, beingness organised by the Brilliant Entertainment Networks (BEN), will be launched with a concert in the capital's Jawaharlal Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium on Crataegus laevigata 16. ''As many as 15 Punjabi and Indi-pop music icons will perform together live at the concert, to an audience of over 15,000,'' Raman Raheja, the Director of Ben, said at the conference. ''This is the first of a series of concerts that we be after to have across the world to popularise Punjabi pop and folk music with the help and assistance of music lovers planetary. To begin with, a series of concerts will be held in the U.S, Europe and West Asia'' Raheja said. According to Samar Kasal of BEN: ''music is the glue that binds people no matter of country, race and religion. Though Indian Music is today gaining world-wide acceptance, its diversity is still unacknowledged. BEN thus took upon itself the mandate to render a platform for internationally-acclaimed Indian artistes to come together and perform general.'' Complementing BEN on its efforts to hold the concerts, Daler said ''I am happy that the seed of Punjabi Pop that I and Malkit Singh sowed near a decade ago is being further nurtured by Ben. Nothing could be a better service to the drive of popularising Panjabi pop that is bringing a host of talented singers like Jassi, Mika, Hans Raj Hans, who have emerged on the scene over the lowest decade, on unitary platform through such concerts.''

LATEST: MIKA has been dubbed "pathetic" by festivalgoers after he skipped a performance at the Big Tingle in England on Friday (4Aug07). The singer's spokesman claimed an "ear, nozzle and throat" contagion kept him from singing at the event in Herefordshire. But fans and workers at the festival were more than skeptical of his motives and defaced banners and daubed graffiti across the site, claiming they were "fortunate" to have missed out on a carrying out by the "silly" Grace Kelly hitmaker. Mr Scruff, The Blockheads, Kruder + Dorfmeister and DJ Yoda all performed at the annual event. Last month (Jul07), Mika was forced to strike down a series of gigs in Kingdom of Denmark after being hospitalised over an ear infection.
